Post-Water Assisted Liposuction Surgery
One of the many benefits of water-assisted liposuction is the quick recovery rate. Compared to regular liposuction, water-assisted liposuction has significantly less bruising and trauma. Although you may be eager to slip right into those skinny jeans, the first step towards post-surgery liposuction recovery is donning a compression garment.
So, you've always wondered about that compression garment worn post-liposuction. What is it like, why do you have to wear it and for how long?
Lipo Compression Garments Aid in Post-Surgury Success
Immediately after your surgery, we wrap you in a compression bandage to help control the swelling. This bandage can be carefully taken off in 24 hours. A compression garment will go on over the bandage, and be worn for as long as 2 weeks.
What is a compression garment?
This garment is like an old fashioned corset. We take your measurements and order it before your surgery to ensure an accurate fit.
The garment comes in all different colors. At our salon, we use the beige color with a touch of lace for women. Men’s compression garments are also specially contoured for comfortable fit.
As shown in the video below, a compression garment is a great way to decrease swelling and shape your brand new bod.
How To Care For Your Garment
The post-surgical compression garment is designed so that it is easy to take on and off. Because the garment can be put in the washer and dryer on a gentle or low setting, you only need one garment during your healing process.
Why wear a compression garment post-liposuction?
Most people simply feel more comfortable wearing their garment post-surgery. We request that you wear it for 2 weeks because it helps the body absorb any excess fluid that the cells have released. This also allows swelling to go down faster.
The post-surgery compression garments really make the recovery period much better and patients are always very appreciative of them!
How long should you wear your compression garment?
Some patients opt to wear their garment longer than 2 weeks just because they find it to be more comfortable, but it's not necessary. It really doesn't help the swelling after 2 weeks; If the patient desires to wear it longer than 2 weeks it would be because they like the way it feels.
In the rare case where swelling is really persistent, the doctor may instruct the patient to wear the garment longer.
